What is going on?
UK gas and electricity prices remain extremely high and extremely volatile. Prices have risen to previously unthinkable levels as Russia has withheld gas from Europe over the last two months. There was some brief relief from the otherwise continuously climbing prices due to talk across Europe of intervention into the matter.
However, Russia's announcement that Nord Stream 1 will now be switched off indefinitely has prevented further price drops for the time being. Talk of government intervention, however, could cause a drop in the wholesale market.
